Midlife Money Memo, day one - and so it begins!

Well, here we go. It's day one for this brand new blog, and I just really wanted to get something new up here so I could get rid of all those "lorem ipsum" placeholders, so here we are.

Where to start? This time last month, I was still working pretty much seven days a week at what had totally been a dream job, working remotely from home long before the pandemic made working from home a thing for more than just a rare few folks like me.

I'd started that particular job in 2017, though I'd pretty much been working remotely online since 2003. I loved it there so much for so many years, working happily with no plans of changing things up anytime soon.

Over the last few years, the dream job started slowly turning into a nightmare. Most of us were miserable and constantly stressed, and there was always SO much drama. I'd been off and on considering leaving for a while at that point, but after some good folks who didn't deserve it were let go last month, I made the decision to leave what I'd felt for some time had become a sinking ship.

So I did, and now me and my Generation X self who's still far too young to be retiring (and stupidly didn't ever think much about socking away anything for retirement all the years I'd been working since a teenager, duh!) is right smack dab in the middle of midlife reinvention, so to speak. I've changed paths before, yeah, but this time, at my age and with all the usual midlife challenges, it seems a little different.

It looks like there's light peeking through the clouds, though...

It looks like there's light peeking through the clouds, though...

So what's next? If my life were a Magic 8 Ball, I feel like it's perpetually stuck on "Reply hazy, try again", seriously.

But then again, y'know, there's also the whole "light at the end of the tunnel" thing, too. So here we go on my newest midlife reinvention journey... and here's to finding that light!
